About The Event
Our first annual Hawaii Go Camp for youth is coming
Audience: Youths ages 6-18 (One adult must accompany the youth or siblings on the trip during non-camp hours)
The appropriate youth's skill level for the camp is 5kyu - 15kyu
Where: Pagoda Hotel, Honolulu, Hawaii
Dates: Saturday July 25 - Saturday August 1, 2026 (Wednesday July 29 will be a free day)
Times: 8:00am to 4:00pm
Cost: $750/child. Early bird and family discounts available. (more details at registration)
Camp fee includes lunch for each child attending camp and camp t-shirt plus a special camp souvenir.
Lodging: Pagoda Hotel, special Go Camp rates. Includes free breakfast for two. (more details at accommodation)

Myungwan Kim 9P
Myungwan Kim is a 9 dan Korean professional Go player. He was born in 1978.
Kim became a professional Go player in 1994 reaching 7 dan in 2005, 8 dan in 2007, and finally 9 dan in 2009.
In 2008, Myungwan Kim moved to the United States as a representative of the Korean Baduk Association with the aim of teaching and promoting Go. While in the U.S., he has been involved in efforts to establish an American Professional Organization in collaboration with Tygem and the KBA.
He has achieved success in the U.S., winning the US Open in 2008, 2009, and 2010, each time with a perfect 6-0 score.
He has been a consistent presence at the US Go Congress, teaching and providing commentary, and has also taught at Go Camps and ran a Go school in California. He now lives in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Ryo Maeda 6P
Ryo Maeda is a 6-dan professional Go player affiliated with the Kansai Ki‑in, widely recognized for his energetic international teaching style and his leadership in global Go education. Over the past two decades, he has become one of the most familiar Japanese pros to Western players, thanks to his long-running involvement in Go camps, online schools, and major international events.
Maeda is best known as the founder and organizer of the Osaka Go Camp, an intensive multi‑week training program held annually in Japan. The camp features daily league games, professional lectures, teaching games, and cultural excursions. All instruction is conducted in English, making the camp one of the most accessible professional‑level training opportunities for Western players.
Maeda has attended the U.S. Go Congress for nearly 20 years, becoming a beloved figure in the American Go scene. His teaching style—warm, humorous, and highly interactive—has made him a favorite among youth and adult players alike.
